Position Summary:

Florida Atlantic University is seeking a Medical Education Specialist - Boca Raton, FL.

The Medical Education Specialist will assist the Foundations of Medicine Course Directors and the Program Manager, M1/M2 Clinical Curriculum & Preceptorships in the Office of Medical Education (OME) at the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine (COM). The Medical Education Specialist will provide administrative support for the MD curriculum with a focus on the Foundations of Medicine courses and related activities.

The first two years of the MD curriculum includes four Foundations of Medicine courses (FOM 1, 2, 3 & 4). These courses focus on fundamental principles necessary to become a competent, compassionate and professional physician. The FOM courses include a variety of teaching methods such as small group case-based discussions, workshops, lectures, clinical skills sessions with standardized patients, and simulation activities at the College of Medicine’s Clinical Skills and Simulation Center. As a longitudinal component of the FOM curriculum, students participate in patient care with community preceptors.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Collect and enter course and session materials into learning management systems and other curriculum databases as applicable.

  • Accurately schedule, update and maintain lecture recordings and ensure they are available to faculty and students in a timely fashion.

  • Assist with preparation, posting and/or distribution of small group session materials for all FOM courses.

  • Ensure small group rooms and classrooms have appropriate supplies.

  • Maintain all files and records associated with the curriculum and respective courses as directed.

  • Assist with the curriculum mapping process for courses as assigned.

  • Assist the Office of Medical Education (OME) in the coordination, preparation, set-up, and proctoring of all quizzes and exams across the curriculum. This may include cross-training in exam administration platforms and processes.

  • Assist with the logistics of Institutional Competency Assessment (ICA) week for all academic years and administration of Objective Structured Clinical Exams (OSCEs).

  • Assist with administrative tasks associated with the Clinical Preceptorship program and/or other areas of OME as assigned.

  • Assist with administrative support for other courses within the MD program as needed.

  • Work collaboratively with fellow members of the COM faculty and staff, including but not limited to the Office of Medical Education, the Clinical Skills and Simulation Center, and Office of Student Affairs.

  • Work with faculty and students in a responsive and professional manner.

  • Complete special projects and/or other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

A high school diploma and five (5) years of appropriate experience are required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:

Bachelor’s degree is preferred.

Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and other stakeholders within the university and health care community.

Experience in a higher education institution, medical school, or hospital is preferred.

PREFERRED ATTRIBUTES OR ABILITIES:

Ability to work independently with a high degree of reliability and attention to detail.

Exceptional time management and organizational skills with the ability to be flexible and adaptable in a setting with multiple ongoing tasks and competing demands.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel and the ability to learn and maintain proficiency in new software programs.

Ability to respect and navigate sensitive issues and maintain confidentiality in all matters required.

Consistently demonstrate a high level of professionalism.

Salary:

$40,000 – $45,000 per year
